Hello All,

Highly specialised software is available to process so called GIS data (Geographical Information System). Has anyone any experience with doing this using BO reporter? I fear this is not something that BO was ever build for, but somehow it appeals to me to be able to show for instance sales revenue not in simple charts , but plotted in a geographical map , possibly related to such distributors as state, city or zip-code. I have seen simple reports with MS Excel where you can import a country as a map for this purpose.

Anyone any ideas? T. Blom

I suppose you can export th data you need to a file from either the dataprovider table, or from a report table, and then import that into your GIS application and generate your GIS displays. I don't use Reporter, sdo don't know what you'd be trying to accomplish with that tool in particular. If you wanted to automate all these steps, I suppose you can use VBA if the GIS application also supports VBA.

Sorry for not being clear enough. I do not have an GIS application. I want to use BO to get perform some simple GIS functionality, namely showing Geographical related data in a map of , for instance a country. From another forum I received word the MS Excell uses such an basic add-in (I recall it is a miniversion of InfoMap).

Anyway, this led me to following links:

but by the looks of it , this is very advanced and expensive. T. Blom

Had some success in running MapInfo from BOb - worst case is to map the points, export the map as an image and inlcude in the report.

An alternative package to look at for points on a map in Microsoft's MapPoint package ( or even Autoroute ). You can acces the most useful COM Objects to put info on a map with ne of these and it's a lot cheaper.
