Hello,

When a system boots the CPU Serial Number is listed. How can I display the CPU Serial Number without rebooting?

Thanks,

Michael42

I think so. There is a serial number listed (not the MAC address) when a Sun system boots. I thought Sun was referring to it as the "CPU" serial number but could be wrong.

Thanks,

There have been several questions of this kind before, but unfortuately the seach engine is down at the minute. My recollection is that there is no satisfactory method of obtaining the hardware serial number except by looking on the backplate of the computer. Then again, I could be wrong! Perhaps once the search is back in place we can find out. Alternatively try posting on or searching
Sorry I can't be of more help at this stage.

There is not a command to get the System Serial's number
but on the newer systems you can use prtfru to get P/N and S/N for the internals. Refrence man pages on prtfru.

Don't know if it helps but using eeprom displays the system board serial number (on my solaris 8 system anyway)
