I think so. There is a serial number listed (not the MAC address) when a Sun system boots. I thought Sun was referring to it as the "CPU" serial number but could be wrong.
There have been several questions of this kind before, but unfortuately the seach engine is down at the minute. My recollection is that there is no satisfactory method of obtaining the hardware serial number except by looking on the backplate of the computer. Then again, I could be wrong! There is not a command to get the System Serial's number
but on the newer systems you can use prtfru to get P/N and S/N for the internals. Refrence man pages on prtfru.
