Is there a direct way to detremine to amount of physical RAM on a solaris machine?? A command that give you an overview of the hardware inventory??

I tend to use a utility called top. It shows you (among other things) total physical memory, free memory, etc. You can download it from

on Solaris 2.6

sysinfo

this will give you lots of info including memory.

You can also use: dmesg | grep mem

Solaris 2.7 does not return these variables though. You have to use sysinfo. Get used to it. dmesg is nice as you can also grep to look for cpu and get the number and speed of the processor(s).
