ati agp all in wonder 9800 pro is the graphics card.
resetting the apeture (in bios) to 128 fixed the problem, but now the monitor does not show the edges of the desktop so that I can see only the top edge of the start button. Also, res is set at lowest (4xx X 6xx) and increasing makes icons bigger, not smaller???
having trouble installing drivers too. drivers that came with the board are so old as to be out of date. drivers downloaded from ati install ok, but do not resolve the issue.
I know that some ATI cards did have a problem, but I think that was in Windows 2000. I had one swapped out by ATI a long time ago to resolve the issue. It sounds like the drivers are not that compatible with XP. What speed is your AGP port set to in the BIOS? Shouldn't make any odds, but if you are able reduce the AGP ports speed. It could be that the card is having a problem if the ports speed is set above it's rating.
Yes, going into safe mode you should be able to get the monitor working again. Why did you disable the driver?
There never was a 5x speed for AGP as far as I know. From what I have found this card is 4x. Have you tried setting the BIOS to 8x? It should be backwards compatible. Is this card the Pro version with the TV out & remote? If so it looks like it is about 4 years old & shouldn't really have a problem with Windows XP. Also, another thing I noticed was that it should have a seperate power lead to the card itself. Does it? & is this supplying the correct voltage?
