Are you using online administration or "admin" program.
Run Admin-go to COS
I believe if you set up a user with the user type "99" in your class of service you will have a user with admin privelleges. At that point you should be able to reset passwords.
I was planning on using a PC over the serial port, but yesterday tried to get access over the phoneset. Of course the client has zero docs and the previous vendor is DOA.
For PC admin do these need special software or just a serial terminal?
The admin password is 2275, but there aren't many options there, record menus, reset mailboxes, set date & time, are the main functions of phone admin. PC programming is needed to setup menus, time controls, subscriber names for directory, blah, blah, blah. I could send you a copy of the admin program. TalkpPath & Dispatch are basically the same product. One is sold to dealers, the other is sold @ Graybar.
You can use Procomm or WinComm Pro (which comes with WinFax Pro) to access the 2856 remotely. But, the programming only works well if you use Windows95. It does not work well with Windows 98. I bought a used laptop on ebay and loaded Windows 95 on it and use it only for programming and maintaining telephone systems and voice mail.
Procomm will work, but I like the Wincomm better.
The procedure is the same for the 2856 as it is for the 4896. The only difference is that the modem port for the 2856 is 199 and for the 4896 it is 499.
For either method, you need to set up your communications for 2400 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and your terminal emulation as ANSI.
Then, here is the best way to do it:
First, buy an auto fax switch and connect it to the last line of the hunt group or any line going into the system that you can dial directly. They aren't that expensive, and it will allow you to get into the system after hours or when there is not an attendant or someone else to transfer you to the modem port. Disconnect the incoming line you choose from the switch and connect it to the Line In of the fax switch. Then go from the Phone port of the fax switch back into the telephone system, and take the fax or modem output from the fax switch to an unused port into the 2856 or 4896. Whatever line you connect this to, go into programming and make that a DISA line and don't assign that line to any extensions. The DISA default password for both systems is 100. The example that follows uses the codes for a Command Communications fax/modem switch, but any fax/modem switch will work, just use their codes. You can use the customers fax line and just connect the fax machine to the Fax port and use the modem port for your remote connection.
You might need to experiment with the dialing and pauses that you need to insert into the dialing string, but once you get it right, save the connection and then reuse it to gain access.
For my switch, I use the following dialing string:
XXX-XXXX,,,#22,#22,1,0,0,199 (for the 2856)
XXX-XXXX,,,#22,#22,1,0,0,499 (for the 4896)
XXX-XXXX is the number that you assigned to the DISA.
commas are pauses, and this is where you need to experiment to find the correct number of pauses
#22 is the command to the fax/modem switch that takes you to the modem port. If using the fax port, use #11
1,0,0, is the DISA password and the commas are pauses because I found that just dialing 100 doesn't always work.
199 is the modem port for a 2856 and 499 for the 4896.
When you connect to the system, you will get a prompt telling you to ENTER PASSWORD:
This is where you will type the programming password which is VODAVI for the 2856 and 3226VODAVI3226 for the 4896. It has been a long time since I dialed into a 2856, but the password might be the same. The installation manual for both says the password is VODAVI, but on the 4896 you must use 3226VODAVI. If you enter the correct password, you will get the ADM> prmopt and you are ready to program. Type a ? and press Enter, and you will get a screen showing the programming commands and their keyboard equivalents. There should be a figure showing these commands in the programming manual, and you can't program without the manual, so make a copy of this page (figure 600-1) for reference and begin programming. Hope this helps.
I am an IT tech who needs to update the subscriber list on a Vodavi Dispatch voicemail system. No luck getting software to edit lists and menus. Where is it available? Send reply to Joe @ CSS-Solutions.com.
