Looking for help in using diskpart
with Windows PE.

Everytime I change a drive letter in Windows PE via Assign Letter=W, the letter is changed in Windows PE but after booting back to XP it goes back to original drive letter? Weird?

Also when i script diskpart to say C partition and D partition the letters hold in Windows PE, but when i boot the XP setup disk, C is there but D is turned into H. WHAT?

Insights Appreciated!

Ah thanks windows pe seems to do a lot to help such as partition disks but drive letter seems not.

Does anyone know a better way to change drive letters around.

I had this issue where i had a c and d drive, however something went funny and the c drive was deleted.

Hence the d drive became c drive. i recovered the c drive as the d drive. but then got ntldr missing error, hence is there a way to swap the letters.

better still if something could be used to preset drive letters to volumes for fresh xp installs.

One thing to do would be to disconnect all external drives, USB, and Memory Cards, or anything else that might be assigned a drive letter, before any install of Windows, and then connect them afterward and let them fight for remaining available drive letters.

yeah the pc has an inbuilt memory card and cd rom, just looking at ways in which to mass market pc builds with partitions.

just to update.
After changing the letter in windows pe, and then applying an image afterwards it did keep the drive letter as d.

although before you may of had to change the cd rom to another drive letter.
