I am trying to learn about disk quotas. As I understand it, I can place a disk quota on a volume and limit the amount of space a user can utilize on that volume. As an example, we created a "public" folder on our server and every user has a folder in that "public" folder. If I place a disk quota on that volume, not the folder itself, then each user is limited to what they can store. Is this correct? Are disk quotas used often in real world?

Thanks for the info.

1st on quotas.
you cannot apply them to folders, it is activated on a volume level.

otherwise, you are right

but you have to set up quotas for all users or individual users, it isnt automatic!

Yes, I understand that its volumes not individual folders. Are disk quotas normally used in the real world?

Thanks,
