Been looking for solution for six months.

My backend on shared NAS locks up every 160 to 200 hours. the "disk or network error"

No related posts indicate a relationship to time?

Probably not related, but..

If you have a form or a report with a vba module, and you copy and past the form or report, you get the error you mention.

I think there is a patch for this, but the patch didn't work for me, so I just have to be very careful to remember no to do that.

Hope that helps,
ChaZ

Hi

This error is often caused by a genuine Network problem, could it be that some external thing is happening periodically (eg a large data transfer, a backup or some other thing) which co-incides with the 160/200 hr cycle?

In the past I have seen many examples of this particulalry in heavy engineering situations where (say) switching on or off of large items of equipment not related to the Computer system have generated transient probelems on power supplies and/or networks

I too are using all the latest sp'ks and updates.
Win2k and Access2k, if it's a result of anything it's an update query I use for security logins. But yet it's happened on a Sunday am with only myself loged and mid-session. And still I can almost set my watch by this thing.

Thanks for the ideas. I ruled that out months ago, but I will take a fresh look.

Read the Corrupt MDBs FAQ below. Tony Toews (Access MVP), the author of this massive compilation, collects the information from years of answering questions on comp.databases.ms-access. It's the best resource out there, period.

Like clockwork, you say? That's weird. I had recurring Disk Or Network error problems when connecting over Terminal Server/Citrix onto a database--it gave the error when two (or more) users logged on, and specifically when one of the users 'logged off' the database--the next time the remaining user tried to do anything with the database, it would pop the error. The solution: tweaking OpLocks registry settings on file server and on clients.

Naturally, that information is mentioned in the FAQ. So read it.

Not a solution, but work around.
I have been restarting the NAS server during periods of non use. Have not had the "disk or network" error since. Now my problem is automating this routine via Intrnet Explorer interface. Over night I boot all users off the backend then use second copy too make my backup nightly. Second copy allows me to run other programs after the backup. I can open IE to the restart page but can't exicute enter(password), enter(restart buton), exit(close IE).
