I need to know a solution for replicating SCO 5.06
Open Server images. I have a golden harddrive I would
like to replicate onto 50 machines. Once the image is
on the machines I can make the necessary configuration
changes for each machine. Does any one know how to do
this utilizing software and a network?? I have tried
Ghost and Drive Image but have not been successful.

Suggestions appreciated?

Hi,
PowerQuest Drive Image is the right programm!
I use the same. If it doesn´t work you can also do it with "dd".
Just type "man dd" and you get the manual. It will work through the network too.

I spoke with PowerQwest today and they indicated that their product did not support SCO 5.06. If someone is using it and it is working please let me know how you are doing this?????I still do not have a workable solution to this problem.....

Thanks....

Kevin

are the machines going to be identical in hardware setup?
are the hard drives the same?

If the machines are going to be identical in hardware setup but not necessarily the same hard drives then i would suggest that you could use a cpio tape backup with a set of root & boots, and just pretend you are replacing a dead hd.
( see faq section )

if the drives are identical then it might be faster to use a cloning tool if one exists.

to make the backup:
login as root
umount any filesystems that are not on the disk you want to duplicate.
cd /
find . -print | cpio -ocvdumB > /dev/rct0
(or redirected to whatever your backup device is)
- this will take all directories and links even if they are empty.
