Hi there

My PC rebooted of its own accord and when my PC booted I recieved the error:

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press ENTER

I have one 120GB hard disk and a DVD and DVD RW drive, my PC has been working fine for months and suddenly has issues

The hard drive is being recognised by bios post but doesn't appear to be bootable no more

What would I need to do enable it to be bootable again or to just reinstall a new copy of windows?

Any help would really be appreciated

Jamie

Well, there are a lot of possibilities, but the easiest I can think of is:

Boot with CD
From command line, type sys c:

There's a chance that this can make your hard drive bootable again.

Cheers,
Dian

That would be good for Win9x Dian.

For XP, boot from CD and choose to boot to the recovery console. Fixmbr and/or Fixboot should get your HD bootable again.

dian, boot from cd will not get you to command prompt. it's the 98 /95 .... that you can do that with. he needs a repair or system file check.

Cheers guys, I will try the recovery console to see if I can repair the Hard drive and keep you updated on how it goes

Another possibility if your MOBO supports SATA is that your BIOS has reset itself to SATA RAID mode (default on many notherboards) and you have a single SATA or IDE drive. Look in the BIOS for SATA mode RAID or IDE.

Actually this sounds like its trying to boot from floppy, go into bios and adjust the bios to boot from hard drive first and not floppy and see if it still does it.

This may or may not be it just what it sounds like to me.

Hi, I will try this tonight to see if it is corrected, my boot sequence is CD ROM - HDD - Floppy

I have changed the boot sequence also and it throws up the error, the problem I feel is that whatever makes the hard drive boot into Windows XP has become damaged or corrupt, I guess that a fixmbr or fixboot could work but my friend has exactly the same problem and uses his XP CD to boot his hard drive,he never did find the resolution to it

Regards

Jamie

I have just had the same problem after replacing a CD drive. Just will not boot from hard drive after reading the drives installed it stops. Will boot OK if XP CD put in.

Seems that boot system corrupted. The fix MBR in the Recovery Consule did not work but will see if the Raid is set with not SATA HD installed.
