Hello, all

I have used various ISPs for logon in my time and find that all of them either:

1. disconnect me fairly often "just like that", whereby i have to reconnect and lose either the work or train of thought..

2. force me to resart/shutdown because logon icon in Systray somehow won't let me kill connection...unresponsive to normal logoff.

Is there any way to mitigate this annoying pattern, short of upgrading to DSL/online DSL,etc?

Thanks.

Hi, as promised, I did some research on all of this disconnection stuff with the isp's. However, I did not find yet how to overcome getting over on the isps. BUT, I did find this out for all of you getting disconnected. Now, again, I am not talking about "keeping alive" a connection, I'm talking about having an ISP that let's us stay online for as long as we want to. Big difference being that you can only stay alive up to the point where most isps will disconnect you, even though you are active. I found out that Wal-Mart has a new isp service, wmconnect.com and so far (I had to get off at some point! lol) I stayed hooked up, away from my house, for 1648 MINUTES, that's 27 hours and 40 minutes!!!! YEA!!! Think I will change my isp. Their service costs $9.95 a month and I did NOTHING to stay on this long. Just downloaded it and clicked on and left it on. I did however have everything running, i.e. CallWave (can't miss a call, I'm single, lol), msn messenger, paltalk messenger, aol messenger. I have tried in the past msn, aol and peoplepc, they booted me when they wanted to. I too had tried all the configurations and the little "stay alive" softwares........but when they want the line, they boot you, end of story. Hope this helps out some of my fellow techies out here.......sure is a big surprise to me to find an isp that let's you stay on in unlimited terms, as I wanted...Just for the record, I am on a simple modem dial up connection because I live in the boonies and can't get what the city folk get..........lol....this is my best solution so far.
