We need to disconnect single users who are infected with viruses that are consumming too much of our routers memory. What is the command? We are using a Cisco 3640 router. We can disable them and then reload the router but that knocks everyone off.

How are the users connecting to the router? Are you disabling the user at the PC? Etherway disconnecting the infected PC should free up the memory sued to pass the traffic load. Unless its your logging the is useing up all your memory. Could you be more specific on your problem.

Whatever you do; do NOT enable IP accounting or IP CEF on any ethernet interface. The virus activity will fill your memory within minutes and crash your router.

Best way to save your router is with an access-list applied to the ethernet interfaces. Find out which virus you are fighting, how it's propagated, and build your list to filter that activity. The latest nasty virus spread using ICMP and we built a filter to block ICMP echo, applied it on ethernet interfaces at all 300+ locations, then went machine-by-machine to eradicate.

Good luck!
