I have a brand new server 2008 (SBS), the workstations get disconnected everyday around 7pm, sometime one by one, something a few at a time. I checked the event logs and there is no indication what might have causes it.

Please HELP!!!!

Thanks in advances,
Kwok

On the workstations and server, check the properties of the NICs, on the Power Managment tab, make sure that the box is unchecked for Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Yes, they are turn off. Beside this happen while they are using the pc and always happen around 7pm. It normally come back right away.

Are your switches plugged into a UPS? I had a client that had a problem with the AC coming on at a certain hour and it would cause a power dip that reset their switches.

If you are using a UPS, check your batteries and make sure that it is properly sized for the load.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Yes, it is plug into a UPS with others devices / server which are not having any issue.

Any other processes that may be running at that hour?

In your original post you say nothing in the event logs, are you checking both client and server logs?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Yes, both. Also it is not just one client that is getting disconnected.

Sorry not much to go on here. I can't think of anything else at the moment.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Oddly enough you're not alone, I dont consider myself a tech by any means so you'll have to bear with me but the people in our office have noticed this a lot the last couple days, just not as much at as a specific time as you. It happened in the evenings the other day but just happened at noon today.

It makes the computers running such programs as Simply Accounting and our inventory program either very very very slow to run or downright impossible.

I did go through the first step and have turned off the power saving feature on the NIC card. Dont think thats the problem as this is happening when workstations are in use. It's essentially making our main mapped drive Y: inaccessable or slow where as the P drive seems to work just fine.

Very frusterating as it usually requires a reboot of all systems to get things functioning properly again.

Another thought that crosses my mind is your backups, snapshots, windows and antivirus udates

Either one of these could be causing issues,

Can you also confirm how your benig disconnected ? can you elaborate on how you notice this, e.g. the network icon on the sys tray says disconnected then connected again, or just slow browsing, and server not responsive. If so during this phase are other workstations accessable when the server is not etc

Either way, hopefully youve already solved the problem :) the post is an old one ive been browsing through

And is your server meet the minimum requirements for SBS2008?

We get disconnected for only a few seconds. The reason we know about it is because we were using an access database and it caused the program to crashed.

No, we are still having issue. How do i can for snapshot?
