we're trying to recover space on an exchange 5.5 server.

theres only ~12mb left on it and since then services such as the Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service and then Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent stop running randomly.

whenever we attempt to recover disc space we get a Jetpack 1808 error, which is "No space left on disk"...

so... if we're trying to recover disc space... but we cant because apparently there's no space left to recover...

anyone have any suggestions?

btw we're using ESE util and EDB util to try and free up space.

There isn't enough working room left for those utilities. This is the danger of allowing your disk space to fill up.

Is there any way you can add extra disks to the server (even temporarily), and configure them as a new volume? This would be the best solution - a new big volume could easily have the database moved to it, to allow you to work on it.

If not, then there is an alternative, you can use a network drive for the working space for ESEUTIL. However, it's slow! has all the details.

Before you do this, tell us the number and sizes of your drives on this server, and the used size of each drive; and how big the priv.edb file is, and have a look in the application event log for the most recent 1221 events - we're interested in the entry for the private information store - this will tell you how much white space there is in the database.
