I need to put together a disaster recovery kit for any and all operating systems. I want this kit to have any software that would help to do a disaster recovery. Do you have any ideas of what software I could need? I know that I will need boot disks, an anti virus program, a disk copy tool like drive copy, but is there any other software that could be useful? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

For a true disaster, having your data local usually isn't the best idea. Often it is better to have the data somewhere else, with a spare server to drop the data on. That way, if you have a true disaster, the data isn’t lost with the servers. I would suggest looking at a replication product to help you with that. There are some hardware solutions that can help you with this like something from EMC. However, these tend to be quite expensive. Instead you might look at a software solution. I'm familiar with a product called Double-Take and have found it very useful for doing DR type solutions. At the minimum I would suggest looking at offsite storage for your backup tapes.

Add Lost and Found to your toolbox. Also consider purchasing a couple of spare hard drives to catch recovered data.

anything for Data Recovery for NTFS? because Lost& found fails when it comes to NTFS...

It depends very much on what you want, which isn't really that clear from the message.

Firstly, disaster recovery is not just data recovery... far from it. You use the term disasster recovery though, so I will assume that this is what you are asking about.

Disaster recovery usually revolved around a plan. Firstly, I can offer a recommendation for planning and then a source of free information on this topic - lots of it.

a) Planning Product
Quickest, easiest, cheapest without loss of quality is, in my opinion, the BCG Generator:
b)Information
A substantial, free to access, resource can be found at: Basically this is hundreds of pages on how to plan for disaster recovery on any platform

I would recommend that you do read the information, then the product stuff, before deciding what to do and whether you do actually need a plan (assuming you don't have one already).

I hope this helps and that I have actually answered at least part of your question.
