I'd like to write a DR faq, would anyone be interested in collaborating with me? (please.... I'd hate to write something this important and miss something vital) Mike

Hi Mike are we talking only about ignite or other options going to be under considration?

Patel

Patel,

I think that ingnite should be our starting point. We can move on from there but my idea is to provide a cook book to describe to do build a recoverable system.

What do you have in mind? Mike

Hi Mike et al

I would also like to participate .. I have done a few live DR's on D / K and L series servers using Ignite UX and may be able to provide some information.

Cheers,

Milos

Hi Mike,
1. How to install Ignite server?
2. Require permission. i.e remsh
3. type of Ignite backup. Tape & network.
4. way to recover via tape or network?
5. Way to recover if there is no options to boot from network. (boot through tape and load data from netwrok)
6. make_boot_tape for 5th step.

more to come......

Patel

Patel - that looks good.

And Unixqueen, Milo - yes please. My expertise in this area is mostly in knowing how *not* to do it.... <embarassed>

Patel,

It's my understanding that igniteux comes with 11? I know it was a download for 10.20 and needed patching like crazy - does it still need patching? Mike

Hi Mike / all

Under HP UX 11.00
ignite latest patch is PHSS_21828

Patch Name: PHSS_21828

Patch Description: s700_800 11.00 make_recovery(1M) with whole-disk filesystem

Creation Date: 00/06/19

Post Date: 00/06/26

Hardware Platforms - OS Releases:
s700: 11.00
s800: 11.00

Products:
Ignite-UX B.2.4.307

Filesets:
Ignite-UX.RECOVERY,fr=B.2.4.307,fa=HP-X_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP

And a known problem under Version 3.x.y
is with make_recovery(103):
The make_recovery command will be replaced by
make_tape_recovery.
Both commands are supported in this release (Ignite-UX Revision 3.2).
Please read the man page make_tape_recovery(1M) for usage of the new command. In a future release, make_recovery will be replaced by a script that calls make_tape_recovery.

make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 create an entire image , as make_tape_recovery -A make a minimal image ( based on the file /opt/ignite/recovery/mnr_essentials
)

;-) !
Leo-Steph ;-) !

Mike,
We do have Ignite for 10.20 it is free download as well as it is in Apps CD for 10.20.
Yes both require one patch. Mostly it require "pax cumulitive patch".

Ignite 11.00 now has make_boot_tape command to create universal boot tape.

Ok - we seem to have a fair bit of interest which is pretty nice. I'll have a stab at version 1 of the FAQ and pass it around everyone. Would anyone who would like to contribute please email me so that I can send you the draft? Mike
