To All - Hello.
A user is no longer in the office & his phone has been set up for a new person. The phone itself has been modified to display the new person's name, etc. On the previous individual, the device associations have been removed & the primary extension as well.
A new user added with the available extension but when Importing the new user, it keeps coming up with "A User with the specified extension already exists in the Partition."
Now, I do notice that under Cisco Unity Connection Administration>Users>Previous user, still shows the extension mapped to him and grayed out. I rather do not delete the user from the CCM, would this be the only option to free this previous employee's extension and assign to a new person?
Thanks again

Have you tried to resync the old User in Unity Connection?

Assuming you have some business need to keep the old (former employee's) mailbox, why not simply renumber it, thereby freeing-up the extension for reassignment?

Personally, with a fully LDAP-synched system and CUPC tagging along for the ride, we've had nightmares trying to simply reassign a phone from one user to another. Policy now is if someone leaves and a new employee is properly onboarded via Active Directory, we find it expeditious to totally wipe out (kill) the instrument and voicemail then rebuild the user ;iterally from scratch using the BAT tool.

As part of this policy we no longer give phones (or voice mail) to anyone who is not in Active Directory (LDAP) - everyone, even contract temps and permanent on-site vendors must have an active A/D account else they do not get a company phone, period. There is no redress or petition from the stipulations herein laid down and presented. If you need a phone, there is a process to get one.
