Disappearing text in InDesign 2 and 3

Running Mac Powerbook Aluminium G4 1.67MHz, 2 Gb RAM, OS 10.3.9

I'm having problems entering text . When I enter text, the text on the page disappears, leaving the cursor blinking. Clicking back into the selection tool restores the text to the screen. Anyone else having the same problem?

What color is your text?

My text is Turquoise on layer 1. My background is dark blue on layer 2. I have 64Mb of video RAM, so display ought not to be a problem.

You may have a hidden break in there somewhere. Try showing typographer's marks as you type and/or deleting any space between the supposed break.

Ok . . . first

Basially - I need to know more information about your problem besides the text disapears while I am typing and then reapears after I click out of my typing area. Chances are that those colors on your PC are too similar and therefore do not show up well while you are typing.

Make sure that your layers are ordered correctly too.

Double check that your text is not reverting to the default of Black, which would make it impossible to see the font on top of Dark Blue while typing.

Secondly I recommend blinding, hiding, making invisible the Dark Blue layer while you are typing.

Also have you created a text box, or are you just clicking and then starting to type? This will cause your type to go to the upper corner of the box on layer 2 which will insert it into that layer (this is me assuming that your dark color is a box and that that box is not locked. The Type cursor with have () around it and not the [] that indicates you need to click and drag to create a text box or the "I" which indicates you can begin typing.

I hope that this in some way helps if not can I get more information about what is going on? That way I can help you further.

Thank you for your help.

It turned out to be a font problem.

I am a beta tester for a music notation program, who advised me to junk my current music fonts, which wouldn't work with their new version, and replace them with new ones. I had used some music fonts in my InDesign text.

Since I did that, I haven't had a recurrance of the disappearing text problem. This makes eminent sense. If there was a corrupt font in my text, then the textflow would have immense problems trying to flow the text. I'm surprised that it flowed at all, so full marks to InDesign for doing its best

All I have to do now is figure out why I cannot use text-wrap in my current document, except in another layer, but that is another story.
