How to disable the showing of zip type files in the left directories tree in windows explorer?

Thanks in advance!

Cannot be done, I believe. There are no controls over the display of files other than control over hidden and system files.

You can unregister the zip folder support to prevent zip files appearing as folders:

To disable the compressed folder feature click on Start -> Run and enter the following command:
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

To enable ZIP folder support run this command:

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Restart Windows for the change to take effect

The intention was to ease the use of third-party zip utilities.

Zip files do not display as folders on my system in the left hand pane of explorer. Not sure what settings I might have that are different but i'll have a play around.

Are you talking about any one type of Zip or Compressed files?

In Win Zip there are many options listed under Configuration in the drop down Options menu, including how Win Zip is handled by Explorer, which can all be disabled.

283605 - CAB files may appear as a tree node in Windows Explorer

A note, doing the regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll bit made my WinXP Pro Windows Explorer open/display the contents of the hard drives and external drives much faster. Right-clicking a .zip file and associating it with WinZip didn't change that.

bluejacket,

No question about it. XP's explorer is dragged down a bit by trying to handle .zip folders.

Thanks all.

After disabling the options of "'Add to' includes folder information" of Winzip 9.0, zip files are no more displayed, with faster windows explorer opening!

sorry... the previous method won't work. I finally uninstall Winzip.
