Is there anyway to disable to monitor from going into a standby mode while logged in as root?

I know as a user you can adjust such things but I don't know / or can't find the options to disable under root...

Any help would be appreciated

Chris.

I managed to do this in RH 7.x.
What Linux are you using ??

try using
xset s off
or maybe
xset s noblank

also do a man on xset. That should hopefully do the trick.

Currently running mandrake 9. It took the xset s off command ok but will that apply to monitor power off as the screensaver never comes on.....only the monitor goes into power save mode.....when looged in as a user the screen saver activates as usual and the monitor will always stay on.....hmmmmm

setterm -blank 0

Will set the screen saver to off.

Put as line in /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Actual command for this is xset -dpms

This shuts off the Power Saver functions...

Works well now. Thanks for the point in the right direction guys.

Chris.
