Has anyone know how to disable file transfer (send and receive) in Live Messenger 8.1?

Q. How can I disable and secure file transfer in MSN Messenger? We are using Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers.

A. You can set up firewall rules to block ports 6681-6900, which is what Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger use to transfer files. The Internet Connection Firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 1 and below will work, as will the Windows Firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista. You will need a third-party solution for Windows 2000.

Had try but not function, is this cannot apply on Live Messenger 8.x version?

What firewall are you using? Are you saying you cannot block the applicable ports?

I had block the applicable ports on firewall, but file still able to transfer by MSN. I had tried this on Windows firewall and Cisco brand model.

On Experts Exchange there is mention of this as to why blocking ports doesn't always work with "Live Messenger"

"Windows messenger will now use your proxy settings and do file transfer over port 80 or 8080 if you are using them"

Which brings us to this type of expensive software.

Symantec IM Manager

Or you could just dump Messenger?

Do you let workers send files or attachments in E-mails?
