Disable Exchange Backup During Directed Recover ?

We are currently backing up MANY MS/Exchange servers to a Legato Server on a Sun machine. Our Exchange databases are around 100 GB + each. When we need to perform a mailbox restore from a particular server, we restore the entire information store to a dedicated 'D/R' exchange machine using directed recover.
Several people who have worked with Legato in the past here have stated that we should disable the PRODUCTION server's nightly backup while this directed recovery is taking place. Not only does this not make sense to me, but, doing so means that we miss what could be a critical nightly backup. Why should we disable the production backup if we are doing a directed recover to an entirely different machine. Any help in resolving this question would be greatly appreciated. [sig][/sig]

May be what he meant is when you are restoring data to the Exchange Scratch Server. Make sure no backup jobs are running when that took place.

You shouldn't be concern at what he say. Its all common sense
