Hi,

We have a requirement to disable the Ethernet port (PC port) on the back of some of our phones as they will be in area's that do not allow network connectivity. Is this possible or do we just have to block the port from having a cable plugged into it.

Thanks

Neal

The 3300 Requires a minimum of release 4.1, PC Port on IP Phone - Disable
The 200 has had it for quite a while - Again a COS option, 2nd port on PC or somesuch

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Not too knowledgeable on the 3300 (been a few years since working on one) but if nblount can't easily update is it possible to set the VLAN of the PC access port to something they don't use? That should logically block the port from passing traffic. Can that be set on the actual instrument or via a form? ~ Mike

Copy the existing COS for the phones to a spare one naming it No PC Port. Before saving it under the General tab, disable the PC port via PC Port On Device - Disable set to Yes. Save it and give this COS to the phones that require it.

Always look out for the next guy because it may be you!

As pointed out already in 4.1 there is now a COS option to turn the port off. If you have older software then you could probably setup the layer 2 switch ports the phones are plugged into so that untagged packets ( what the PC's would provide ) go to a VLAN where you can control its routing so they can't connect to any other network resource.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

We are running 4.2 I believe currently. I had thought of the VLAN option but I prefer not to change the ports configuration on the switch as all our ports are configured the same also the phones are less easy for general people to change.

Thanks
