Greetings,

At first I thought I was having some odd problems with the cursor randomly jumping around the screen where I'd be typing in one area then find I'm typing in a completely different area. Come to find out it's thing dang touch pad I'm apparently brushing as I type which induces a "click" and moves the cursor where ever the pointer happens to be.

So, I'd like to disable the touch pad but can't seem to find where to do that. I've checked the device manager and scoured thru the control panel but can't find the device anywhere. Maybe even turn the sensitivity down on it if it's possible.

Any suggestions? Dell Latitude D610 XP Pro

Go to start, run, then type msconfig. Click the startup tab and find its items in there. Uncheck them, hit apply close and restart. That should turn it off. As for figuring out which ones they are just look up the items on google.

Didn't think about checking the startup but I looked thru it and none of the entrys are touchpad related.

Meanwhile, other forums are suggesting the touchpad is tied in with the mouse driver and an update with Synaptic will produce a box/tab where the click can be disable. While typing, I believe. Anyway, since this is a company machine I'll have to wait until the IT folks can update it for me.

Thanks.
