I'm trying to find a way to disable the auto-pickup-ringing-line-when-you-lift-the-handset feature. Basically a phone with 2 lines on it, and the second line is ringing, when the handset is lifted, it automatically picks up line 2 because it's rining. I'm trying to stop that. I want Line 1 to go off hook when the handset is lifted even if line 2 is ringing. I want the user to specifically select line 2 in order to answer line 2. I am on Call manager 4.1(3). Any suggestions?

There is a setting in enterprise parms called Use Prime line only, if not in the service parms. The issue also causes problems with the VM button

You want always use prime line set to True (defualt is false)

From the Service menu, choose Service Parameters.
Choose Publisher CallManager Server > Cisco CallManager service.

Under the Clusterwide Parameters (Device - Phone) section, scroll down to the Always Use Prime Line parameter, choose False and click Update.

Also, I believe newere phone firmware (7970 phones definitely, and likley 7960's, not sure about the others)
has this selection at the device/phone level so you can set this parameter on or off on a per phone basis for those that want it

(Best to change and keep it set to TRUE in most cases, too many times I see users pick up a ringing shared line accidentally with this set to False!!)

Thanks for the replies, I'll try them in a bit.
I'm basically trying to keep user from picking up a shared line (line 2) when they meant to pickup line 1 (their personal extension) and make a new call. I need to set this on only a handful of phones, not on all phones. I think I'll look into the firmware update first. Thanks again!
