Hello

I've recently had to enforce a group policy that gets rid of everyone's background pictures on our terminal servers.

For the most part it works pretty good. I've got all execpt the settings tab hiddin in the display properties. Most people who had different colors, pics, whatever, on their desktop are now being pushed a plain blue background via the "Active Desktop Wallpaper" setting under desktop in a group policy.

Problem is, people who had *.bmp (bitmap) pictures on their backgrounds still have them and I can't get rid of em! The background color is the color I'm forcing, but the pictures still show up!

I know i can just delete the file, but why can't I get rid of pictures and keep it that way with group policy's and bitmap files??

I'm not trying to be a mean admin, just following orders ya know..

Did you enable the setting under Active Desktop to prohibit changes? Also, under User Configuration>Adminitrative Templates>Control Panel>Display, enable the policy that prevents changing of wallpaper. It sounds as if your users are just putting the .bmp images back on after you delete them or the gpo pushes out the active desktop wallpaper.

Don't forget that disabling that tab doesn't prevent users from being able to change their background. In most web browsers, you can right click on an image and set it as your wallpaper.

Right, I've got the policy enable that prevents changing, but apparently that doesn't work, like sniper said, they can still right click on a bitmap file and set it as the background. ONLY bitmaps will work, it doesn't allow any other file type.

If they had bitmap background before I forced the background that I'm wanting them to have, it keeps their picture rather then enforcing the one I'm trying to push. Again, this is only bitmaps..

Still workin on it..
