Hello all, i am having problems with my DirecTV DSL. The status icon in the system tray shows that the connection is solid. Yet i am unable to view webpages, connect to ICQ or anything else internet releated.. the DirecTV gateway worked fine when i had it hooked up through USB, but i need to have it connected through the Ethernet card in order to use my router. This is the 1st time ive used the ethernet card which came in my Sony Vaio and is still in it (Windows XP, P4 1800, 512, 80gb). Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? I dont know anything about networking, except that I cant set up my network without overcoming this problem.. its very frustrating... DirecTV's website is horrible as far as tech support and im not quite ready to deal with one of there tech people on the phone. Please let me know if you need anymore information... i could really use some help... thanks

Well.. i fixed the problem listed above by calling DirecTV DSL's tech support, im a moron, I guess that THEY needed to reconfigure my Gateway if i decided to switch from USB to Ethernet.

So.. theres one problem down.. thanks for the help everyone?

I'm having the exact same problem but Directv no longer offers technical assistance because they are going out of business. I know that the router's "routable port" is currently set to USB but I need to find info on how to change it myself. The web page says to call DirecTV but they no longer respond. Does anybody know hoe to manually change the routable port in an X1 type DirecTV DSL modem?

I seem to remember when I helped someone once before with this problem, that you can connect to the router through a web interface and change it from USB to ethernet or vice versa. John D. Saucier

I read that I can change the routable port via the web interface and logging in as admin but I don't know the admin password. I've spent hours on the web trying to research this issue and the only solutions that I found were calling DirecTV technical support (which is no longer available) or logging in via the web interface but I don't have the password.

Ok I spoke with someone on it and I was told that you should uninstall the software. Then reinstall and select what interface you want to use USB or ethernet. John D. Saucier

Thanks Jsauce, but I've already tried that multiple times. It appears that on the 1st onfiguration, it sets the routable port but it cannot be changed on any reinstallation. When I tried to uninstall and reinstall, it changed everything but the routable port to Ethernet. The routable port remained USB and then I had no access at all.

Hey markinmiami, i'm having the exact same problem trying to switch to ethernet from usb connections on my directv dsl modem. unfortunately i'm having about as much luck as you are, what with the tech support lines down. i'm asking around though, and if i find out anything i'll post it here.

Thanks. I've been all over the web, tried calling and emailing DirecTV and received no replies and attempted to contact some DirecTV technicans but I haven't had any luck whatsoever. I'm at the point where I'm ready to just cancel DirecTV and go with another DSL provider. I bought $250.00 worth of wireless equipment that I can't use right now. If I find anything out, I'll let you know as well. Thanks again.

Actually, with DirecTV DSL, you have to call them and tell them that you bought a new USB peripheral and are out of USB ports, they have to do the switch from their terminal at the office over to the ethernet. Very simple. It's too bad they're going out of business.

I was finally able to get an email through to tech support and found my routable port switched to Ethernet this morning. I can't tell you how happy I am to finally get this resolved. The email address is support@bb.directv.com

Thanks to everybody with their help and suggestions
