Directory selection in Javascript

Hi

Just starting to get back in to js, can someone tell me how to open a dialog box which will allow the user to select a directory on the local machine?

I need to read this value (selected dir) back in to my controlling cgi script...

As far as I know, this cannot be done without the use of either an ActiveX control or Java applet.

The file input only lets you select file types, as far as I know... Although you could get the user to select a file in the directory they want to select, and you strip off the filename to get the directory name...
