Directory file list

I want to look in a file directory that i point to and then list a summary of all the file types found and unique files.

If then i click on the summary of files found, then it will show me the paths.

How can I do this? thanks

i seen scripts that show the directory files.
for example in dos i can do dir /s

The problem is the scripts that i have seen online do not collate the results like say 20 jpg, 10 xls, 4 unique files found in directory c:\temp as chosen.

I have seen this in python :
