Basically just what the title said. The directories are freezing after I installed SP3.

The freeze if I make anther window active and try to go back to it. I have to Task Manager->End Process in order to close them. Anyone else have/had this problem?

Know why it's caused or what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

hummm actually it is not an operating system faulty coz i installed service pack 3 and it is working fine. What your hardware specifications?

We have sp3 running on a few Workstations and Servers so far and haven't encountered this issue, seems like a local issue on your server. Is it all folders have the problem? Do folders opened on drives mapped to the server also lock?

I had similiar problems on just one machine after installing SP3 on several Workstations.

Basically exploring drives and folders was slowed down to a snails pace. I decided to remove the SP and hey presto everything turned to normal. Very Strange.

I have heard a few things about SP3 apparently it now enables system details to be sent automatically to MS. Not sure if thats true.

StressedTechie,

I figured it was the SP, I never, ever, had this problem before, then I installed SP# I've had it twice since then. The first time I reinstalled everything, and this time I believe I'll go back to SP2.

Nick,

All folders have this problem. It seems to be whenever I have it in an active window, and change windows. When I got back the dir hangs. *shrug* It's not a huge problem as I can just force it closed and reopen to finish what I'm doing but, I like a clean running system (windows? hah) as much as the next guy.

loopback,

Hmmm let's see what I can do off the top of my head, I haven't reinstalled belarc advisor yet but here we go....

MSI KT3 Ultra VIA KT333 Chipset
AMD Duron 1.2g / SLK-800 w/80mm Smartfan
Voodoo 4 (ehh)
Maxtor 15g Primary
Maxtor 40g Secondary
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195] SP3
Realtek RTL8029
Sound Blaster Audigy DE
Microsoft Natural Elite InterNet Keyboard

Its a bad file.....

watch for a file that is not showing the assocated ICON for the file type and move it out of the directory. Not do not put suspect files on your desktop or my documents, also avoid any directories that are in your path.

The file can crash explorer.exe too.

I got this one. A bad file will crash explorer after upgrading to SP3.

Happy hunting

I have been having alot of problems that I never had before since SP3, the most aggrivating one is the stability of 2000 seems to be gone. Applications now can crash the system like, games. I run Norton 2002 and system will crash in the middle of scan. I have run several registry programs to check for errors, crash in the middle of process. Soldier of Fortune 2 Double Helix worked just fine before SP3, now it crashes the system. Mafia, Hitman 2, just to name a few all crash the system. I will be happy to email sys info and dxdiag text files to who ever will help me... I am seriously considering buying a ide controller and another hard drive to run Windows XP side by side with W2K and slowly make my transition but I dont want to leave W2K professional.

I just reinstalled everything and updated my Win2k to everything pre-sp3 and it all works flawlessly again, I will never go to any other windows os unless it is like win2k and not an xp/longhorn. If I were you I'd reinstall and update everything except sp3.
