A general question here.

We are creating a CD-ROM sales presenter. We are debating whether to use Director or Flash to create this. What are the pros and cons?

The main problem that I can see is that Macromedia is reportedly phasing out Director - is this true? Basically, as this CD-ROM may evolve over the next year or two, I want to future proof it a bit - so perhaps Flash is the way to go?

Any advice gratefully recieved.

In my experience, the main drawback of Flash is that it doesn't handle bitmap images like Director. Director can import transparent photoshop files, do direct manipulations on graphic images, etc. while Flash can't. Flash is much better at manipulating vector artwork and slows down a lot when it tries to manipulate bitmaps.

It all depends on the nature of your project. Both D and F support XML and other external communications, though Flash is a little more internet robust. Director, though, has many, many more third-party "Xtras" that greatly extend its functionality.

Director has traditionally been better for CD projects, and I can't see MM phasing it out whithin the next two years--unless they make some radical changes to Flash.

You might try a combination of the two. I often use Flash in my Director presentations because, IMHO, Director's vector tools suck.

Hope this helps. . . :)
