For user simplicity rather than them have to type in the ports at the end of DNS names, I was wondering if my system can just redirect them to the appropriate resource.

For example:

"service1.example.com" would equal "example.com:10"

My server(s) use Win2k3.

Silly idea but why not have a redirecting webpage on that site redirecting to the required port??

Not too sure how easily you could do it but I can't think of any reason why it couldn't work.

ie, the webserver hosting service1.example.com would have either an index.htm(l) which would have an immediate redirect to the required site and port. Kinda messy but workable I am sure???

I find when I attmpt to use http for these particular programs they get all confused as to what they're supposed to be doing. Perhaps there is some very specific html coding im supposed to be using, but I haven't figured it out yet.

For example one of the applications gives a socket error when attempting to do it that way. Ports are annoying I have found, then again -

The more you learn about comptuers, the more confusing and difficult they become.

You can use meta redirection at client side with 0 seconds browser wait.
