Can anyone tell me how to set up Direct Cable Communication on Windows NT4. I know that it is available on Win2k and Windows 98. Surely there has to be something similar on NT. Mighty :)

Thanks Wolluf - unfortunately I had just bought a parallel cable and it turns out that NT will only allow serial connections. Mighty :)

What do you want to use it for ?

If it's just for file transfer:
Serial file transfer software and a simple serial cable will do the trick. Dont pay good money for one, make it yourself: A simple cable can be made with a 25 way D connector, pins 2 & 3 crossed and 7 straight through. Alternativley, look at the Misc section of for the full duplex version.

If it's for networking / file sharing etc, I've not come across anyone that's done it successfully.

I have made a connection from an XP system to a 98 system. The connection is active. How do I see the files on either system to transfer from one to another<

If you have NIC's on both machines, configure the IP's appropriately, and put them in the same network segement. Connect them with a crossover cable, and set them in the same workgroup.

That is what I had hoped to do to begin with. However, the laptop does not have a NIC card.

Thanks.
