I know this an incredibly newbie question(I am brand new to Panasonic) but I am having issues with getting my digital extensions working. I have a NS700 up and running and registered. I can get an analog phone working fine with the extn1-4 port orange pair wired to inside pair. I am trying to get a digital phone working with extn1-2 or with the dhlc4 card extn1-4 using orange pair wired to outside pair. I have tried both KX-NS546 and KX-T7630 and do not even get power to the phone let alone dial tone.

I talked to Panasonic support who said it should simply work and must be a wiring issue. They said either phone would work (I have my doubts about the KX-NS546). I have tried making multiple cables with same outcome including taking a known good cat5, cutting off one end and wiring orange to outside pair and still nothing.

I feel like I am missing something incredibly dumb but I just can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The KX-NS546 is a Network/IP Phone and will not work on a Digital Extension Port.

The KX-T7630 should work.
Yes it is the outside pins in the jack (yellow/black or White/Orange).
Make sure that you are using a 4 conductor cord from the jack to your phone.

Use a 568B type wiring scheme for your RJ-45 Plug to EXTN 1-2 on the KSU.
White/Orange Pair (Pins 1 & 2) should be Digital Station 1 (Ext 101)
White/Green Pair (Pins 3 & 6) should be Digital Station 2 (Ext 102)

You said the KSU was Registered.
Did you do it or was it sent to you that way?

The test is if you get a Flash ROM Id screen when you log in.
If you see it, then it is not Registered.

I hope some of this may help you.

Sorry the one phone is a KX-DT546 not NS.

I am plugging directly in from the cable to the phone with no jack in between. RJ45 with OrangeWhite/Orange pins 1 and 2 going to outside pair RJ11 plugged directly into phone. I have also tried GreenWhite/Green pins 3 and 6 to outside pair with same results. I guess my only question was in regards to you saying make sure you are using a 4 conductor cord from the jack to your phone. If you only need 2 wires on outside pair why is 4 conductor needed?

When it came up it gave the Flash ROM ID screen but we got it registered and no longer displays that. My understanding is the extensions will not work till this is done and we do get dial tone on the analog phone we used to test.

I appreciate your response as this is driving me nuts and again I am sure it is something silly I am missing.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Hello,
Make sure your line cord is plugged into "PBX" port of the phone,
Panasonic digital sets use the Green Pins of an RJ45 (3+6), it may also be using a BT end (pins 1+6 of a BT end)

Here is the wiring of NS700
Analogue lines wire as
Line 1 - Oranges
Line 2 - Browns

Analogue Extensions on system
1 - Orange
2 - Brown

Digital Extensions on system
1 - Orange
2 - Green

Digital Extensions on card
1 - Orange
2 - Green
3 - Blue
4 - Brown

IF you were using an RJ11 jack and a 2 conductor cord, you would not be extending the Digital Circuit to the phone.

I have never seen a 2 conductor cord that used the outside pins in the US.
However, if you use a 4 conductor cord, you can't go wrong.

So this sounds like you put a Modular Plug on the end of a cable on the outside pins.

Try using a jack instead.
There are 2 types of Modular Plugs.
One for Stranded Mounting Cords and one for Solid Conductors.

Alo, try putting your Buttset (on Talk) across one of the pairs and you should get some DC (Talk Battery).

So wiring to a jack fixed the issue. I re-examined my rj11 ends I cut off and noticed I had used 6 pin not 4 pin (I knew I did something stupid). I appreciate all the help.
