A Dash Board is just a customisable front end web page essentially.
They generally have some company wide information on the front end, take company results or something like that and then the rest can generally be set by the end user. So they would have sales figures, wages, profit or targets reports or figures for example.
They can also contain information from other sites for instance stock market figures.
Dash Boards are designed to be configurable by the end users. Business Objects have certainly jumped on the recent band wagon's of dashboards and many many many companies are running with them. It's the latest thing, but they are good for many things. you can find a number of websites that do something similar. Yahoo! members area allow you to customise your home page etc.
