That's a bit of an odd question, since the Magix is a digital PBX. But here goes...
The simple answer is NO, you do not HAVE to have any TDL modules in your Magix. I would recommend that you put a 412TDL board in slot #1 at minimum. TDL is the only circuit pack that supports Avaya digital sets.
The Magix also has a TR card to support ordinary cordless or home type phones. The ETR "Enhanced Tip/Ring" module is used to support Avaya Partner telephones.
An old plastic carrier Legend that has been upgraded is arguably a Magix (true Magix have steel carriers). And in that case, an MLX board can be introduced to support the Avaya MLX sets--technically ISDN phones.
