Hi,

I'm running Brightstor Arcserve 9 on a WinNT machine.
My problem is this. I have setup a rotational backup (using GFS) to run a full backup each Friday and differentials from Mon-Thu. I started this on a Friday and the full backup ran successfully. On Monday however, when a differential backup should have run it appears to have run a full backup? In addition if i look at the job in Calendar View the next scheduled backup always seems to appear as 'Full' even when it should be 'Differential'

Am i doing something wrong here?

Any help, much appreciated.

This is correct, when you check the calender view, the backup of 'today' will always show up as a full backup, regardless of the method you selected.
The backup itself however will be processed according to the scheme and method. Check the restore manager on this.

regards

thanks for the speedy reply!

It did however definately run as a full backup on Monday when it should have been a differential. I have checked the logs and it backed up the full 3.1Gb on the C drive - nothing much on this drive would have been modified.
Could this have anything to do with having the 'Image' option selected for this job. I assumed that this option would be used on the full backups but ignored on the differentials but is this the case?

Image option reads the drive at a block level. Differential runs of the Archive attribute of the files. If you select to use the image option then it would do a full backup.

What you saw is as designed. This is how GFS starts. Once you've got your first backup going it'll resort back to differentials.

You need to also deselect Image as the previous poster mentions Image works at a block level and will not differentiate on the Archive Attribute.

Thanks to you all for your help.
I'll remove the image option as these seems to be the key to my problems.

Image Option is a good Option for Dumps ... You can just deactivate it on the volumes you're not using it on.

I use Image to backu p the Dumps of SQL for example ... We dump SQL to disk and then dump this disk to tape. Works well and on LTO Drive I can get upto 3.8GB/Min (Serveless and SAN OPtion also)
