Hi everyone,

I have a jpeg file that was taken from someone's fancy digital camera. It's a jpeg, and when i try to open it, I can't - the problem seems to be that it is a "differential jpeg" file and neither Photoshop nor Graphic Converter can open these types of files. Websearches I've done haven't been very helpful, maybe someone here knows?

Thank you!

What type of camera is it? I think differential JPEGs are quite obscure, but perhaps the camera manufacturer website might have a conversion utility, or a PS plug-in...

solved my own problem after much searching and failures

This is a list of what didn't work
iPhoto: no
Preview.app: no
Photoshop: no
ImageReady: no
force QuickTime translation: no
GraphicConverter: no
Firefox's JPEG decoder: no
Toast's picture transcoder: no

Finally tried a program called GIMP:

Hope this can be useful to someone else...

Ah, the GIMP. It always comes to the rescue at the most unexpected times! Well done on figuring this out.

For people on other platforms, the official GIMP application can be downloaded for free from their official site:
