Differential backup problems

Hi People,
I'm having few problems trying to get a differential backup to work correctly. We are running arcserve 2000 on an NT 4 sp6 server. If I run a full individual backup job it works fine.
However as soon as I try and get a rotation job going i run into trouble. Just last night I started a new media pool etc and started the first day of a 5 day differential backup rotation with full backups on fridays.
I checked the log this morning and it appears to have backed up fine. However up attempting to do a test restore I can only see folders and not files within folders. So i restored a folder anyway and there was nothing in it after the restore.
Basically if anyone can give me a good idea of the best way of doing a backup with one full backup a week an incremental/differential backups the other days.
Thanks!!

As soon as you created the backup job, did it do a full backup the first night? I believe in order for a differential or Incremental process to work, a full backup is needed.

Hi Matpoo,

Is there any reason why you need to use Media Pools? You can probably design a rotation fairly easily without them (they tend to get a little ocnfusing especially with Scratch tapes / database corruption over time).

Drop me an email with the details of what you need to setup and I'll help you design a backup rotation that should suit your needs.

Pls disregard if you've solved your problem, otherwise if you are using the image option during full backups, make sure you dis-select ...skip file scanning (ntfs only)

Hello,
I need to know if we can extract tablespaces, index files and data files individually from an oracle agent using a cold or hot backup?

To tgg77
Are you using NT or w2k and what version of Arcserve? If you backed up using the image option and file scanning is enabled together with all the relevant oracle option patches, the answer is YES.
