Hi all.

I have a cube that produces some pretty cool reports, however they are 'web' based and the results when exporting them to pdf's or xls files really isn't what the user wants. They previously had a nice pretty foxpro report that all they needed to do was click a button.

Now, with cognos, we are finding that the print options aren't great. the pdf cuts off data - unacceptable, and we don't want the user to have to finagle anything, we promised they could click a button just like they always coud. Should we not have promised that? I would like a way to print the report that's on the screen.

I am now trying to export to xls and run a macro to make it look pretty, but that's another step, too, and i'm not really sure how to do this anyway because that would mean the macro would have to be in every xls file and those are created on the fly, right without ever knowing what that filename is, so I'm not seeing a way that could work either.

does anyone have a suggestion for this?

kenndot,
I too yearn for better output options from PPES - fingers crossed for 7.2 and closer equivalence to PP Client. Sometimes the pdf is just way off what the screen is showing.
One solution would be to add a custom button on the cube to output the chart, but you'll need to do it in Java rather than Cognosscript - see Thread401-682990 for an example that saves a chart.

hi lex

thanks,... you wouldn't happen or anyone else happen to know if reportnet offers more printing options?

Perhaps this may help you.
Try Export to PDF and select "Tabloid" on the list. It's a paper size a little bit bigger than A3, and I believe this should be enough otherwise trust DrLex.

All,

ReportNet does have a much nicer report printing option. Is alot more flexible than PowerPlay Web and Impromptu it allows you to create your own page layouts.

At a client site I developed a solution to export PowerPlay Web Reports into excel, I designed a macro using VBA to format the report I saved the macro as an Excel Addin and then register the addin into Excel. Once register the addin will always open within Excel and any of the attributes (including macros) from the addin can be called within all excel worksheets.
