Hi,
I would like to know the main difference between WinNt and
Unix Operating Systems and People say that unix is very powerfull when compared WinNt with respect to Security. If any body tell what makes Unix more secure it would be of great help.

Thank you

regards
preetham

preetham,

People tend to feel very strongly about this sort of thing. I think, though, that it's fair to say that UNIX systems tend to scale better than WinNT|2k and that they cope with running short of memory a lot better than WinNT|2k.

To be balanced I should note that NT has come rather a long way in a short time. It may be that it will soon rival UNIX in terms of stability and performance.

UNIX seems to be regarded as more secure than a lot of things -- but it is probably not the case that it is *inherently* more secure; it is just older and the more obvious bugs have, mostly, been addressed.

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

Hi, preetham!

We use WinNT and we did restart of main server today. Users of WinNT must restart server sometimes.

NT programs (processes) doesn't set memory resources free sometimes.

There is an IBM redbook called:

AIX V4.3 and Windows 2000, Side by Side,
SG24-4784-01

I think this is an excellent comparison of the
features of the two OSs, without any of the "my OS is better than
yours" stuff...

Obtain from local IBM Publications, see for more info.
May help you...........
