Well, apart from a total different look and feel the idea behind the tools is quite different. BO is still essentially the powerful, but quite demanding tool it was umpteen years ago. You can do wonderful things with it, but you need practice and develop your skills. Poweranalyzer is perhaps more modern (it was developed much later, of course), but it's aim is more at convenience and a bit of flash.
I would say that it will be a question of specs (from your side) Technically BO still has more to offer, but you need to dive into the product. Poweranalyzer has the advantage of being developed later and looks/feels very slick.
Bo's advantage may also be , the big community around it. There is lots of support and knowledge out there, while poweranalyzer is the 'new boy on the block'.
My Question is on Comparison of BO and Power Analyzer.
What ever possibilities avilable in BO User Module(Prompts,Filters,Ranking,Sections etc)everything is avilable on Power Analyzer.
Main Difference which i found extra feauture of BO has Universe creation from the source data but, in power analyzer directly from the source defination(tables, dimensions, facts)are avilable. In this case who is working on Power analyzer is not required the extra knowldge like universe design(schemas and joins) and creation(Alais,Contexts).
Sorry i couldn't find out more on BO
What are other more feautures over Power analyzer in BO.
Could you please brief it.
Universe creation from the source data is theoretically possible, but I would not value this too highly.
I think you should distinguish between the user-interface and the more traditional ICT components. An average user will have little to do with universe design (other than listing enhancements/ new objects)
I think that Poweranalyzer has the better user-interface with a menu-like entry, whereas BO consists of opening reports from a folder. However, BO is very strong in formatting data and has a LOAD of report functions available.
As a mentioned, what are your specs? Draw them and then evaluate both tools point for point. Arrange a pilot with both vendors and you will get a good insight....
Well, Informatica has gone through some internal turmoil I guess. About 2 years ago they proclaimed to go for an end to end solution with their products with lots of focus on their reporting solutions and dashboards. It looked quite flashy at the time, but I do not think they really convinced the 'heavy' users. So after a while the focus went back to the 'core business'.
My guess is that they overestimated the amount of space still available for competing directly with big guns BO and Cognos.......
