We are in the process of replacing our Merlin Legend with an asterisk system. This is a decision we have made for many reason one of which is multiple locations and remote users.

That being said, we have two PRI's coming in to the Legend that I am going to front end for the VoIP side. I will have a 4 port card and take the two PRI's in and pass DID information back to the legend.

What I am trying to figure out is the easiest way to pass the extensions to the legend to direct dial. Currently we take the existing DID that is sent and strip off the digits and send it to an auto-attendant. Since asterisk will be doing the auto-attendant, can I just pass the extension as the DID and have it just work? Or do I have to do something to the routing in order for it to strip digits and redirect?

Regards,

Sean

You did not mention what type of connection will be set up between the Legend and the *. Copper analog DID, conventional DS1 or PRI...

I can do either... My thought originally was to do PRI.

PRI ISDN would be the best way and give you maximum capability. If you are familiar with networking on the Legend/Magix switches or not get the Networking document from Avaya's website: This should provide information you will need to set this up along with other Legend manuals that you might need depending on your level of expertise. Hopefully the * has good support in the document department to set it up to communicate with the Legend. If the PRI option does't work well, then using just a conventional DS1 format channelized as TIE/EM trunking should work OK.
