Magix 4.0
T-1 card installed.
DID trunks are running into the T-1 card and they are programmed loop start.
Client is switching vendors and they cannot reproduce the loop start for these DID trunks.
They need me to change the programming to accept E&M signalling.
What do I need to do if I can do so?

DID trunks are NEVER loop-start! If the existing trunks are loop-start, they are NOT DID trunks! You need to configure them as E/M TIE DTMF/DTMF for each working channel on the DS1. If you have not read the Feature Reference document, READ IT! It covers all this stuff. If you don't have it, download it for free from support.avaya.com.

Happy reading!

Wow! Nice response. Coffee much?
NEVER on this forum have I ever received such a response.

Anyway, I was given the wrong info. Derision and sarcasm aside.....

These are how the DID trunks are configured. The carrier has stated that They cannot provide the current service and I would need to configure for E&M. The only change I can make is to change the DID to immediate start. Would that accomplish what they are asking?

On T-1 DID's the provisioning is wink start which is basic E&M since DID's are one-way inbound only. The wink is the T-1 equivalent of the ground start.
Copper based DID's are always Ground Start, that is your signaling that a call is being presented.

Your T1 channels ARE two way, E&M, wink/wink, so you have nothing to worry about.

Analogue DID trunks, are as basic a CO trunk you can have as a 2-wire ckt. Since they are one-way service, one end is called DPO (Dial Pulse Originate), and the other end is called DPT (Dial Pulse Terminate). They use reverse battery loop signaling with start signal option types of Wink Delay, or Immediate. They are NOT Ground-start or Loop-start, and they don't have any dialtone! When using a 4-wire voice path, separate transmit and receive, the circuit expands to another signaling pair for type one E/M, although you can have a 2-wire voice with E/M also in the simplest version.

When you move the DID ckt to DS1, the channel is equivalent to 6-wire E/M, that is one pair each for transmit audio, receive audio, and signaling in both directions.

Now depending what you are ordering on the DS1 will determine how you will configure the channels. Is the DS1 being terminated on a 100D module in slot 5 in the Magix or some other arrangement? If they are going to be only DID trunks, and you are using Wink-start signaling with a four digit feed, then the configuration in your printout is correct. What about your DS1 parameters? Who is the provider, and what kind of CO switch are they using?

Carrier was talking about the wrong T-1 card.

The second card..... in the 9th slot....

These were just ground start trunks provided on a digital handoff from XO

The new vendor, Line Systems cannot mimic this and is asking me to change the programming on this card for DID trunk usage.

So programming-wise, to make sure I am correct, I would just have to change the trunks on this card over to DID/Wink like the card in slot 5.
I would then have to add these trunks to the current DID block.
Then I would have to provision the programming of the new DID numbers into the switch to go the proper extensions.
With all this completed, all should be right with the world?

DID is associated with PRI; DNIS digits are what's sent over a straight E&M Wink supertrunk. Though the behavior is similar, they are different services over different circuits. I wasted a trip to Bakersfield not long ago because the carrier didn't know the difference (and my switch didn't have the ISDN software enabled). I suggest you get a straight answer from telco before proceeding.

Straight E&M Supertrunk is what they are providing.

What issues might I run into with this config?

If the trunks are just sending the digits, I can just route them correct?

should clarify , you can take a Dnis and route to a CG, or station, but you can not renumber

As a refresher, you might want to read the Feature Reference Guide document. This subject is covered there, and all is explained. The System Planning document may be helpful also.

If your client does not need CID in either direction, then Supertrunk should work just fine.

Thank you all. I was over-thinking this one.
The two-way DIDs they are putting in place are basically the same as the ground trunks that were there before.
I just have to look further into the programming to make sure they mimic the trunks already programmed in.

Ok, running through all the steps I need to go through on this one after refreshing on the feature reference guide.

These trunks were just placed in line pools 70 and 890. Used as outgoing and incoming trunks for the client to utilize. 890 the backup in ARS routing.

I will be setting up these E&M Supertrunks as...
Direction- 2-way
Trunk Seizure - Wink
E&M Signal - 1S
Dial Mode - Touch Tone
Trunk Dial Tone - Local? From what I am reading the carrier should be providing the tone or am I wrong?
Tie Trunk Answer Supervision Time - 300MS (Of course this depends on the carrier I am guessing. Has anyone worked with Line Systems and their E&M Supertrunks?)
