Hi, We have a NEC IPS (R12.2) I have been asked to create a way for employees to call into the system and access any ext directly, day or nite (bypass the receptionist) I know the system has DID and DISA, not sure which would work best and a little unclear on the programming. Any thoughts?
Thanks

This depends on your trunking configuration. Do you have any DID service now? Do you have PRI/T1 service or copper trunks?
You can do a couple of things:

1) If you have DID service then it should be fairly easy to do. Usually the DID last 4 digits will match the extension. If not you may have to do digit conversion which is a little trickier.

2) If you do not have DID service or limited (i.e. you do not have enough DID numbers for your extensions) then you could set up a trunk or several in a hunt group that are answered by your voice mail auto attendant then the caller can enter the extension and your auto attendant will transfer the call.

Thank you for the quick response, yes we do have DID service but on a limited basis. We also have an incoming PRI. But I was originally thinking more along the lines of one or two TK's as our incoming call volume would not be that great. We do have an AD-120 Voice mail and we can call into that system but if the target ext does not have a valid mail box it will not work. If I set up a DID TK will the NEC system answer with a dial tone (like I have seen on other systems) and then let the caller dial a ext? I know every question raises 10 more questions! Thanks

You can setup a DID to ring to DISA. You will hear a tone, dial the DISA access code, then you will get dial tone & can call any extension or access code at that point. I use this so users can change their 'call forward all' setting when out of the office.

This can be done, the tricky part is how familiar are you with IPS programming?
Allow digit conversion for your PRI trunk route CMD 3518>rt>0
Pick an unused DID number from your DID range and assign it to a number conversion block. CMD 7600>did>000 to 999 (pick one).
For day mode use CMD 7601>same number conversion block from CMD 7600>D16 (D16=DISA) For night mode use CMD 7602 and assign the same conversion block to D16. You then need to set up a code so you do not get hacked.
Use the following CMDs:
2AA0>2>09
2A09>Code (up to 16 digits)>0000-2999 = pattern number
2A10>000-2999>2
08>216>0
08>217>0
42>13>01-16 = number of digits in code. DO THIS BEFORE 2A09.
When you call the DID you will get a tone, dial the code, then an extension or 9 + phone number to get outside the system.

OK, it works!!! had to fiddle with it a bid. Thank you belevedere and DrPbx. One more question..... when I call the assigned DID number it rings twice before it returns the dial tone. Is there a way to shorten this.
This site is awesome, learned alot!

Just a word to the wise, Be very careful with DISA as it can leave you wide open to phone fraud. Keep a tight rein on any passwords issued or better yet, if it is for inward access only, make sure outgoing is completely restricted.

Yes, good point. Can you provide a basic example of how to restrict outbound only. I am somewhat familiar with the NEC programs so if you point me in the right direction I think I could figure it out. Thank-You!

See Cmd 2A11 For restriction service. Again a word of warning.... Do not just use a standard restriction pattern as you will probably have all phones able to dial 911. You need a pattern that won't allow someone to dial in then dial 911!

Hey tcjim..you stated above "We do have an AD-120 Voice mail and we can call into that system but if the target ext does not have a valid mail box it will not work."

If you check your system settings on your AD-120 you can activate Under CALL MANAGEMENT a feature known as Extended Auto Attendant. This will allow you to dial extentions from your auto attendant for which there are no database entities (mailboxes or call handlers).

This will allow the use of the auto attendant and you can get pull away from DISA if you like.

Just another option.
