Has anyone been successful implimenting the Diaster Recover Option for ArcServe 2000? I would like to use the Bootable CD, but haven't been successful with making a CD that will boot and in trying the Floppy Diaster Recovery I receive an option that "an error has occured in a module". Hmmm, how descript!

Haven't had any problem with the Disaster Recovery using the floppy option. Haven't tried it with the CD option. I actually tested it on a test server before implementing it on all my "real" servers. You have to do the backups (assuming they are remote backups) using automatic discovery of client agent machines. That's one of the requirements for remote DR. Also, you have to do a full backup of the remote machine. The green square must be solid when selecting the client agent.
Last thought: Have you created you DR floppies correctly and have you updated them recently especially if you have made driver changes.

Look at the following link and then compare to what you are doing.

hi,

cd-boot will not work because Arcserve tried to create some TMP-Files. CD is a read only memory!

Hi,
Please, verify that you have installed the SP3, also for the DR option, then after doing the Full Backup (if your are doing it thru Network ensure that you are using "Name Resolution" on the client agent), create your disks or the CD boot disk, remember that the ISO file created is only an image, and you have to burn your CD with a third party utility like Easy CD Creator.

I hope this help you.

I have successfully created the Bootable CD and it loads, but before it gets to the restoring windows I get an ambigiuos error. "There is an error loading a module" The system them will only let me reboot.

Does your system require an EISA partition before being DR'd? Also, does it ask you for the machine specific disk at all?

If you have machine like DELL, HP, Compaq, you may need to load some additional SCSI drivers.
You can find what is the actual problem by right-clicking on computer icon in DR GUI while pressing shift+ctrl keys. You'll see the menu, select "generate log", then go to DOS windows and check the dr.log file under temp directory.

I have a similar scenario to the one reported by TallyRich. However, I am using the boot diskette method and I get the message "error initializing module" after the reboot(s) that should be setting up the hard drive configuration (according to the documentation). I opened up an incident with CA but they seem stumped (Applied SP3 and a couple other patches).

Thanks Jbarbara11

That's the case here. CA asked if I had SP3 and the patches. Still "scratching their heads."

I also cannot do the recovery on a testing machine,
the partition part seems got problem,

I can chime in and say I've gotten this behavior as well, although the first time through I got a problem finding the media ID and sequence DR was looking for.

Strange error to get when the machine has only performed one full backup in its life using a tape which never left the server (this was a test environment).

I've never left CA support without them scratching their heads. I'm sadly a CA reseller but am thinking about switching to Veritas.

djconroy,

Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss the future relationship between our companies. How did you and technical support leave off with your last call?
