Dialing between Nortel BCM 3.7 and Cisco CME via back to back T1/PRI

Hi all:

I'm attempting to setup two-way calling between a Nortel BCM 3.7 and a Cisco CME (running on a Cisco 2811 router) via a back-to-back T1 PRI. I have the Cisco router setup as emulating the network side of the connection. I am able to call from the BCM -> CME, but when I attempt to call from the CME -> BCM, the call immediately is rejected by the BCM (at least that is what I can tell from the Cisco side).

My dial plan is as follows:

Cisco CME - 4000 range
Nortel BCM range - 6700-7000 range.

I've got a route built in the BCM, so if I dial a 4, it dials a 4 on the CME system. For example, if I make a call from the BCM extension 6750, I dial a 4 (which accesses pool PRI-B), and dial the rest of the number (ie. 4497). The call goes through to 4497. However, from the Nortel side, I only see it come up from "6", which is what the destination is setup in the CME.

So, it sounds like I have half of it right, and half of it wrong. I am using between both DMS100, B8ZS, with ESF.

Anyone have any advice for me to get this working both ways? I would also like to be able to call outbound from the Cisco to the Nortel as well.

Thanks!

John

Did you setup Target Lines?
Once you program the received digit under a target line you can then assign that target line to ring where you want.

Hi curlycord:

I actually did. I setup Target Line 241 to receive digits "6750". I made it private to 6750 and prime to extension 6750. But the call still was rejected by the BCM.

Make sure you're using the Public number, no the Private. The Private is for use with MCDN only. If it's set up correctly, what does the Monitor say when you try an inbound call?

I've fixed one issue on the Cisco side with the number of destination digits. I increased the number to 4 expected digits to send.. and it does it on the Cisco side.

However, what I am now seeing is- the Nortel phone will ring for a brief half-second, then disconnect. I can see the caller ID flash of the phone calling (ie. 4499 shows up on caller ID on 6701) but then it disconnects. It is almost as if the BCM sees something it doesn't like and disconnects. I can still call the other way just fine with no errors.

Thoughts?

Watch the call on the monitor and see we're it goes.

Are any phones forwarded of the system that's receiving the call

I figured it out. I failed to setup the call progress and call setup statuses on the Cisco side to basically tell the Nortel side why it was opening a trunk line. So essentially what the Cisco was doing was opening a trunk line. The BCM did not know what to do with it, and so it would disconnect it as though a normal call was cleared. It took a moment to figure it out.
