Ok my problem is I have a Creative Labs Modem called "Creative Modem Blaster Flash56 PCI DI5630" with the modem number being DI5630-5 I have tried some init strings but none of the couple i have tried did anything. If you guys know any tips tricks or even good init strings that might have worked for you I would greatly appreciate it, THX!

Hi,
sorry to horn in on this conversation, but it's the only one I could find that remotely even had the same problem as I do.
I had a cable modem installed recently on a Dell PC running Windows 98, and now my Microsoft WINDOWS MESSAGING (The Fax feature) is screwy. The computer does NOT show both COM Ports 1 and 2 anymore, Only COM Port1, where Windows insists my Internal US Robotics modem is initialized to...But it's NOT the case. I don't know where Com Port 2 is...
Anyone have an Idea as to how I should proceed.

Thank you.
Tuto

i have the same modem. It is an internal PCI flash 56k V.90 modem. Mine used to work great until one day i took it out of my machine to use temporarily in a another machine. When i put it back in my machine i couldn't get it to work correctly!!
It seems to install correctly, drivers too but when i try to test it using "more info" under the "Diagnostics" tab in "modems property" in "control panel" it locks the whole machine up!
Tried switching slots same problem
Tried removing and re-installing com ports same problem
Tried removing and re-installing Dial up networking, same problem!!!!
Tried removing EVERYTHING and starting from scratch, same problem!!

AAAARGH!!!!!

sxyslt,

This is a guess, but here goes. If you had installed another pci card after the modem, and uninstalled the modem, that could well make a difference to what gets what irq. Does the modem have to be in a master slot or not the master slot(s) should be marked on the mobo or in the mobo documentation.

Also, before you reinstalled the modem, did you delete the relevent inf file in Windows\inf or Windows\inf\other directory. You don't always have to do this, but it does give you a completely new install from driver disks, rather than reusing the drivers already on the hard disk.

The Saint: What exactly is the problem you are experiencing (i.e. no response from modem, frequent disconnects?)

Tuto: What exactly does "screwy" mean? does it send faxes still(sometimes, none of the time) no response from modem?

sxyslt: Try booting up in Safe Mode and go to device manager and see how many modems are actually installed...remove them all and reboot and see? (Just a thought)

ChileanChips: What kind of speeds are you getting??? Do you live in the city or country... new part of town or old... how old are the drivers you are using...is it V90 or V92 (or X2 or Kflex?.
