Dial Up Error Box keeps Popping Up 1

I'm getting error box on Dial Up Network. Message ' dial Up Network cannot start. Please shut down your computer and restart.If fail, create a new dial up connection'Pops up everytime I tried to connect.Restart computer and still the same problem

Sent it for repair, according to the IT guy, due to virus. He had to wipe out all files and restore back operating system (Win98). it worked for a day, then same problem keep coming up.
Tried to create manually new dial up connection but still the popup box keep coming up.And asking me to install modem (I checked device manager and modem is working fine)

Any kind samaritan out there?

after you got the computer back from repair, did you install ANY programs?

After repair, I was able to connect to the internet (using Freeserve CD). I then installed MS office 2000, CD-RW software for my CD-RW(Nero),Fifa 2002, Fifa 2003. Thats all.

just to see if there are any unwanted programs making this happen try going to start>run> type msconfig hit enter> select "start up" tab > uncheck everything that is checked> click ok and reboot. this will boot your computer without any programs running in the background. if that doesn't work and you're getting the same errors what I would try doing is reinstalling DUN. If you don't know how, here are the directions.

Ensure you have the original Windows 98 CD and that it is the correct version (i.e. the version that installed Windows 98 on that machine).


Click Start, Settings, then Control Panel.

Double click Add/ Remove programs.

Click the Windows Setup tab.

Double click Communications.

Uncheck the Dial-Up Networking box.

Click OK.

Click OK again.

This takes you back to the Control Panel. If you are prompted to restart select Yes.

Shut down and restart the computer.

After the computer has restarted, go back to the Control Panel.

Double click Add/ Remove programs.

Click the Windows Setup tab.

Double click on Communications.

check the Dial-Up Networking box.

Click OK.

Click OK again.

Windows may prompt for the CD ROM or disk and begin copying files.

If a Version Conflict dialog box appears during copying, it will ask you if you wish to keep the existing file or not. You should select No to all these questions. This is because selecting Yes will not overwrite any files, which will not be a clean reinstallation.
